When you have a new baby, everything changes. The camera roll on your phone will likely shift from selfies with your partner or bestie to photos of your baby. But don’t forget that moms need to be in the photos, too! That’s why I captured these Boston motherhood portraits for a friend when her daughter was just about four months old. These can be done with a baby at any age, but there’s something really special about this particular stage.
The goal of a motherhood portrait session is to capture the bond between you and your baby. These aren’t meant to be posed portraits – rather they are organic moments that you may not otherwise think to document. My client wanted to document her breastfeeding journey, so I kept taking photos while her baby took a quick snack break. They are easily the most beautiful photos from the gallery!
I knew when I was designing this set that I wanted it to look like we were taking these Boston motherhood portraits outdoors. Would you believe me if I told you these were taken in the studio with a backdrop and studio lighting? It’s possible to create that dreamy, ethereal setting indoors so you don’t have to worry about the timing of the session or the weather.
