If you’re in Danvers and planning a first birthday session for your little one, you may be wondering – to smash cake or not to smash? It’s totally up to you! Some babies don’t like cake, plain and simple. Or you may be dealing with food allergies. Whatever the reason, you can still celebrate your baby’s birthday with a memorable portrait session.
So what does a birthday session look like without a cake smash? Well, it includes adorable expressions! And trying to keep your baby in one place. One of my “tricks” is using little chairs or benches for babies to sit on. It usually keeps them in place just long enough for me to get some adorable shots before they move on to something else. If your baby is already walking, this trick isn’t always as effective.
For babies who are really mobile, I like to bring out my small vintage ladder. This was an Etsy find from several years ago, but it comes in handy for situations like this! For girls, I’ll often decorate it with some floral elements. Not only does it look adorable, but it gives baby something to do with their hands and keep them engaged. If your baby isn’t walking on their own, I still love using the ladder to show off their ability to pull-up and stand.
