It’s usually around this time of winter when I start daydreaming about summer. As a Gloucester MA maternity photographer, many of my summer evenings are spent at the beach. While Gloucester has many beautiful beaches, Wingaersheek is my favorite for portrait sessions. I’ve come to know the light there really well and love being able to watch the sun set over such a beautiful setting.
I love when dads are active participants in a maternity session. I know it’s not every guy’s favorite thing to do, but having these portraits together with your partner, when it’s still just the two of you, is such a special memory. This couple was so excited to meet their baby girl, it made the whole session even more exciting for me to capture.
Of course, these sessions include portraits of just mom. After all, she is the star of the show! My client coordinated her own wardrobe for this session and I absolutely love the casual, beachy vibe she went with. Not many women are super excited about pulling out a pair of non-maternity jeans for photos, but I love the way they look. Maternity sessions are meant to showcase your growing bump, so why not show it off!
We ended the session over on these rocks. Depending on where the tide is, they can be one of the best places to catch the sunset at Wingaersheek. Sometimes I feel a bit crazy having my clients climb up there, but the end result is always worth the effort!
Maternity sessions are ideally booked once you have entered your 2nd trimester, and are scheduled between 29-34 weeks. Outdoor sessions are available May through October and are shot during the “golden hour” right before sunset. Wardrobe is provided for clients, but you are welcome to use your own outfits – whatever makes you feel most comfortable!
